Swamp’s North East look about trek - 5 day and 4 nights of North East trekking through local farmland and Victoria’s North East wine region.

For those who have ridden with Swamp over the years, he needs no introduction. Russell “Swamp” Ellis has helped on our treks since 2010 when we began our rides in Tolmie. Swamp loves nothing better that heading out on the trail, strumming the guitar around the campfire and having a yarn!

Our adventure will include time spent with Steve and Heidi Crowe at their stunning Auldstone Farm property which is in the heart of the North East wine region, just outside Glenrowan, the home of Ned Kelly. Steve Crowe has a reputation for his performance horse training and kind approach to teaching horsemanship. Here we will spend time riding and enjoying some personalised horsemanship with Steve himself, riding out amongst the base of the Warby Range and local wineries. Of a night, we will enjoy local produce and wines along with gourmet style meals around the open fire.

On arrival to the Ellis family property Swamp will give you a horseback guided tour of the farm, including meeting his homebred mountain horses that once old enough join our trekking team. Heading through the Mokoan Range, Swamps family property ‘Pentown’ a sheep, cattle and cropping farm is nestled in the back hills of Chesney Vale.

Your North East Victoria adventure will come to an end after one last morning in the saddle and a hearty lunch on Friday.

 Join us for 3 days riding through some of Australia’s most spectacular mountain country. Ride though snowgum lined trails, over the spectacular Mt Stirling and through the pristine Delatite River. This trek also includes visiting Craig's Hut, made famous by The Man from Snowy River films

The Howqua River is an iconic High Country river which is fed by the surrounding mountain ranges. Follow the footprints of generations of mountain cattlemen and horsemen who have ridden through this spectacular river system. We stay 1 night at one of the quaint cattlemen’s homesteads set amongst the rolling hills, here we have warm cosy beds, flushing toilets and hot showers. On the 2nd night we are going to head further up the Howqua River to camp for the night at the Upper Howqua before riding onto the mountain tops to finish our trek!

Our 2 day Craig’s Hut and High Country ride takes in the magnificent mountain tracks of Mt Stirling. Ride a sturdy mountain horse and take in the amazing distant views made famous by The Man from Snowy River films.

Camp over night at Razorback Hut and enjoy a night around the fire.

Where and when: we meet you at 9am at Telephone Box Junction, Mt Stirling. This is located on The Mt Stirling road and takes approximately 45 minutes from Mansfield. Please note the Mt Stirling road is a dirt road.

How long do we spend in the saddle?: The ride is approximately 6 hours in the saddle each day

Is the ride suitable for beginners?: This ride is suitable for novice to advanced riders, some experience is required, we are often riding along narrow mountain tracks and going up and down hills.

Weight restriction: 95kg

What is included: We provide helmets, boots, Drizabones and lunch for the day (we just need to know of any dietary requirements)

The High Country is known for its breathtaking views, open plains, private valley's and the amazing wildflowers and snow gums that scatter the landscape.

Visit old Cattlemen's Huts and ride past wild brumbies and spend the star filled nights around the campfire amongst the snow gums.

Drive through the gates to ‘Baringa’ for a weekend of pure country bliss and old fashioned homestead hospitality.

On arrival to the High Country we will have a freshly prepared meal ready, a crackling campfire and a comfortable bed to begin your weekend.

On day 2 an early morning breakfast will prepare you for your High Country adventure to Craig’s Hut. Meander through the bracken to the Iconic Craig’s Hut where you will enjoy a great lunch spread with an everlasting view of the Victorian Alpine Mountains.

On return to Baringa hot showers are awaiting. Then frock up for a dinner and drinks in the ballroom and enjoy some local wines and a hardy homestead dinner.  

Sunday mornings are for sleep in’s! Followed an optional yoga session and a massage. We will serve brunch around 10am before departing home after the weekend.

We kindly ask that a $500 deposit is paid upfront to secure your saddle and the full amount is paid 6 weeks prior to your trek

On day 2, wake to the sounds of the horses being called in and prepared for your ride at the Delatite winery. Mount up and head out of the winery into the hills by horseback. On arrival back to the winery we will indulge in a Delatite grazing lunch and wines.  The afternoon is for relaxing, here is your chance to enjoy an afternoon massage or a walk around the grounds of the property. Tonight, frock up for a dinner in the ballroom and enjoy some local wines and a hardy homestead dinner.
